1. Scope and purpose
CalcElf (“CalcElf”, “we”, “us”) provides an AI-assisted K–12 learning service at https://www.calcelf.com. It helps learners understand and work through educational questions. CalcElf is an educational aid and does not replace a teacher, parent, guardian, school, or qualified professional.
2. Information we do not request from children
We do not intentionally request or require a child’s full name, gender, school name, home address, precise location, nationality, family details, phone number, government identifier, password, or similar unnecessary identifying information for core tutoring.
3. Information we may process
To operate the service, we may process an account email address and account identifier; a broad learning-stage setting; question text and images voluntarily submitted by the user; optional speech converted to text; current-problem chat messages; Credits, subscription, practice, reward and account records; and limited technical/security data such as IP address, browser/device information, timestamps, error logs and abuse-prevention signals.
4. Why we process information
We use information to provide tutoring, recognize and solve submitted questions, adapt presentation to the selected broad learning stage, maintain the current problem context, operate Credits and subscriptions, provide practice and rewards, secure the service, prevent fraud and abuse, process payments, meet legal obligations, and maintain reliability.
5. Learning-stage information
Learning stage is a broad presentation preference. It is used to adjust language complexity, typography, interaction density, examples and visual style. It is not intended as a diagnosis, psychometric score, intelligence assessment, maturity assessment, or ranking of a learner.
6. Images, voice and AI providers
A submitted image may be processed by contracted AI or infrastructure providers for recognition, reasoning, verification or generation requested by the user. Optional voice input is intended to be converted to text for the current request. We do not intentionally create a biometric face or voice profile from ordinary tutoring use. Provider access is limited by contracts and technical controls appropriate to the service.
7. AI transparency and limitations
CalcElf uses AI. AI may make mistakes, misread an image, choose an unsuitable method, or generate an incorrect explanation. Users should verify important answers with a teacher, parent/guardian, textbook, or another reliable source. CalcElf does not guarantee error-free answers or specific educational outcomes. Where required, we clearly identify the user’s interaction as involving AI.
8. Sharing and advertising
We may share necessary information with hosting, authentication, storage, security, payment, AI-processing, customer-support and fraud-prevention providers. We do not sell children’s personal information and do not use children’s personal information for targeted behavioural advertising. Optional marketing uses, if ever introduced, will be separately disclosed and will not be bundled into necessary service processing.
9. Regional storage and international transfers
We use regional infrastructure where available. Depending on the user’s region and the service provider used for a request, information may be processed in the United States, European Economic Area, United Kingdom, Japan, Singapore, or another legally permitted jurisdiction. We do not promise that data never crosses borders unless the technical configuration actually guarantees that. Where required, we use a legally recognised transfer mechanism.
10. Retention, deletion and security
We retain information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose collected, service operation, security, dispute handling, legal/accounting obligations, or protection of the service. Temporary tutoring content such as question images is intended to be deleted or de-identified when no longer needed, subject to backups, security logs or legal retention. We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security.
11. Children, parents and legal consent
Where the law requires verified parental or guardian consent, CalcElf will use an age-appropriate consent process before the relevant collection, use or disclosure of a child’s personal information. Reading this notice and checking an acknowledgement box does not replace legally required verifiable parental consent. For younger learners, CalcElf may use a parent/guardian or other adult account-holder model. Parents and guardians may contact us to request access or deletion where applicable.
12. Privacy rights and requests
Depending on the applicable law, individuals and parents/guardians may have rights such as access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, or withdrawal of consent. Requests should be sent to privacy@calcelf.com. We may verify the requester before acting, especially where a child’s information is involved.
13. School use and education records
If a school or district uses CalcElf with education records protected by FERPA or another school-privacy law, the school/district and CalcElf should establish the required contractual and administrative controls. School staff should follow their institution’s approved technology and student-privacy procedures.
14. Educational disclaimer, changes and contact
CalcElf is provided as an educational aid. It is not a grading authority and should not be used for emergency, medical, legal, financial or other high-stakes decisions.
